’DAYS’ Loses Beloved Veteran

(SoapOperaNetwork.com) -- ’DAYS’ Loses Beloved Veteran.
Frances Reid was born in Wichita Falls, Texas on December 9, 1914 to banker Charles William and Anna Mae (Priest) Reid. Ms. Reid was married to actor Philip Bourneuf from June 27, 1940 until the time of his death in 1979. She had no children.
Ms. Reid grew up in Berkeley, California and made her acting debut in 1938 with a small part in the movie Man-Proof.
Ms. Reid later made her Broadway debut in 1939 as Juliette Lecourtois in Where There's a Will. She later portrayed Roxanne opposite Jose Ferrer's Cyrano in the Broadway production of Cyrano de Bergerac. After several stage roles throughout the 1940's and 1950's, Ms. Reid landed the title role in the CBS radio version of Portia Faces Life from 1954 to 1955. She next portrayed Grace Baker on As The World Turns from 1959 to 1962, and Rose Pollack on The Edge of Night in 1964. In 1966 Ms. Reid starred opposite Rock Hudson in the drama Seconds. In the audio commentary for the DVD John Frankenheimer called Reid one of his favorite actresses.
Frances Reid was among the original cast of Days of Our Lives when in debuted in 1965. She was last seen on Days of Our Lives December 26, 2007. During her time on 'DAYS' Ms. Reid garnered two Emmy nominations for her portrayal of Alice Horton and was awarded the Life Time Achievement Award in 2004. Ms. Reid was also the recipient of three Soap Opera Digest Awards and two Soapy Awards.
In a statement released this evening Ken Corday was quoted as saying, "This is a very sad day, indeed; not only for me personally, but for the Days of our Lives family and the entire Hollywood community. From day one until she taped her last scene, Frances epitomized the past, present and future of the show. Frances was truly one of a kind. Her class cannot be matched and her shoes cannot be filled… we will miss her all the rest of our days.”
Alison Sweeney tweeted, “I'm so sad to hear the news about Frances Reid. She was a truly talented actress & and we are all lucky & proud to have known her. RIP” and later stated that she and Kristian Alfonso were sharing stories of Ms. Reid in the makeup room at the studio.
At this time no further details are available as to when a memorial service will be held or whether a memorial service will be held for Alice Horton on the show.
